A Poem for Sierra Leone

We are here to celebrate her birthday

Not the real birthday, but she made it this way

It’s a day she will always remember

A day of liberation, Independence and hope

A day she bravely stood up and said, no

No longer will she be the recipient of pain

No longer will she be a victim of hate

No longer will be she bullied and disgraced

Today she stood up and she said, no

She lifts up the green, white and blue with pride

Because she is confident of the progress ahead

It’s a great day, so let us all celebrate

A milestone of freedom, reflection, and growth

A day she bravely stood up and she said, yes

Yes, we will recover from the damage of colonialism

Yes, we will rebuild our systems to grow our economy

Yes, we will unite our people through democracy

Today, Sierra Leone stood up and she said yes
