About Our Programs
Africentric Arts provides engaging music instruction designed to help each student grow at their own pace. Through personalized lessons with experienced musicians and teaching artists, students build musical skills, develop confidence and discover the joy of making music.
Lessons are available online, group or in the comfort of your home for children, youth and adults. Whether you are picking up an instrument for the first time, developing your voice or looking to strengthen existing skills, each lesson combines practical instruction, music fundamentals and guided practice with music students can connect with and enjoy.
Students develop technique, rhythm, listening skills, musical understanding and artistic expression while building the confidence to play and perform. They also have opportunities to explore music across cultures, genres and traditions, from contemporary and popular music to the rich rhythms and musical traditions of Africa and the African diaspora.

Ages 6+ | Beginner to Advanced
Build a strong musical foundation while learning to play with confidence. Lessons cover piano and keyboard technique, note reading, sight-reading, rhythm, timing, dynamics, music theory, ear training, chords, scales, musical expression and performance skills.
Children learn through structured methods suited to their age and level, while teens and adults can enjoy more personalized lessons based on their goals and musical interests. Students can also work on songs they enjoy across styles such as classical, contemporary, pop, gospel and jazz.

Beginner to Advanced
Whether you are picking up a guitar for the first time or looking to strengthen your skills, lessons are tailored to your ability, goals and musical interests. Students learn chords, chord progressions, strumming, picking, rhythm, scales, music reading, tablature, ear training, improvisation and performance techniques.
From learning your first song to developing more advanced musicianship, each lesson builds practical skills while helping students become more confident, expressive and comfortable with the instrument.

Ages 6+ | Beginner to Advanced
Voice lessons help students develop healthy vocal technique, confidence and expression while working with songs they enjoy. Lessons can include breathing and breath control, pitch, tone, diction, vocal range, projection, dynamics, ear training, harmony, stage confidence and microphone technique.
Students can explore a variety of styles, including pop, R&B, gospel, classical, musical theatre and Disney favourites, with lessons adapted to their age, ability and individual goals.

Group Classes | Beginner Friendly
Djembe drumming is taught in an energetic group setting where participants learn together through rhythm, movement and call-and-response. Classes introduce proper hand technique, timing, coordination, traditional African rhythms, improvisation and ensemble playing while building confidence and musical awareness.
Participants learn how to listen, respond and play as part of a group while exploring the cultural traditions and community connections behind the djembe. No previous drumming experience is required.
