The Way

Mama says, walk like a queen,

stand up tall, be proud, be seen.

Step by step, strong and free,

Like those who paved the way for me.

They spoke with courage, heads held high,

They stood, they fight, with love alive.

Their footprints guide the path I take,

Their strength is mine; I will not break.

My skin, my curls, the way I shine,

a piece of them, a light divine.

No matter where my feet may go,

my roots are deep, my heart will know.

To stand my ground when the world says no,

To wear my crown and let them show.

To rise, to fight, to wear no chain,

I walk the way they cleared for me.
